Welcome to the Chicago Public Schools Student Connection Toolkit!
Where students feel safe, challenged, and supported and where the school contributes to the development of social and emotional skills, research shows that attendance, learning, test performance, and graduation rates improve and that suspension, expulsion, and dropout rates diminish. The Student Connection Survey is a tool to highlight areas of strength for your school and areas needing improvement in the realm of student connection.
To support schools in using Student Connection Survey data and other information on student connection effectively, CPS has developed this online toolkit. The toolkit is a user-friendly resource intended for use by principals, teachers, parents and other school staff working - any of the many members of our school communities that work every day to improve our schools.
The toolkit provides detailed information on local and nationally recognized evidence-based programs, strategies, and resources for improving student connection. In addition, the toolkit has search tools that will allow you and your team to identify resources that are directly linked to your survey results and identified student needs.
This toolkit is a living document! During the development of this first iteration, we have accumulated programs, strategies, and resources related to student connection from CPS principals and teachers, from Central Office program coordinators, and from national research. However, there are many other working initiatives in our school buildings that are not included here. Please help us add programs and strategies that are relevant and useful for schools by contacting us at cpstoolkit@cps.k12.il.us with your ideas on new programs to include. We will notify schools as we update content through the REA newsletter.
